Join the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors as we celebrate Heartland Counseling Services with an official ribbon cutting!

Founded by Katie Ruscitto, PhD, LMHC, ACES, NCC, Heartland Counseling Services was created with the goal of providing a safe and supportive environment for both clients and counselors. Since opening its first office in Storm Lake in July 2021 and expanding to Fairfield in January 2022, Heartland Counseling Services has been committed to helping individuals and families experience positive personal growth and meaningful change.

Their team of counselors and therapists bring a variety of specialties and are known for their high standards of care, strong therapeutic relationships, and positive outcomes for clients. Services are available both in-office and via telehealth, including individual, couples, and family counseling.

Date & Time:  Fridays 2:00-2:30 writing 2:30 optional share time
Location: Fairfield Public Library Conference Room
Audience: Ages 8 and up

Aspiring writers ages 8 and up can come to the library for a quiet work session in the library conference room. Writers are provided a writing prompt or they can work on their own writing projects. The last 15 minutes writers can share if they so choose.

Garrison Keillor Tonight | LIVE @ Fairfield Arts & Convention Cnter

Garrison Keillor Tonight is an evening of stand-up, storytelling, audience song, and poetry with the legend himself.

One man, one microphone. There are sung sonnets, limericks and musical jokes, and the thread that runs through it is the beauty of growing old. Despite the inconvenience, old age brings the contentment of LESS IS MORE. Your mistakes and big ambitions are behind you, nothing left to prove, and small things give you great pleasure because that’s what’s left. (“I was unhappy in college because it was a requirement for an intellectual, but then I went into show business and discovered that people won’t pay to be made unhappy, their kids will do it for free.”)

There is the News from Lake Wobegon, a town booming with new entrepreneurs, makers of artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf, breeders of composting worms, and dogs trained to do childcare. But some things endure, such as the formation of the Living Flag on Main Street, citizens in tight formation wearing red, white or blue caps, and Mr. Keillor among them, standing close to old neighbors, Myrtle Krebsback (“Truckstop”) and Julie Christensen (“Bruno The Fishing Dog”) and Clint Bunsen. And an acapella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an odd medley of patriotic songs, pop standards, hymns, and ending with the national anthem.

Our Market at a Glance

First organized in 1975, we have become SE Iowa’s most well known farmer’s market. Customers are always pleased, and vendors can’t wait to bring their goods to such a vibrant community of buyers.

The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

Friendly  Local Merchants

All of our vendors are friendly and helpful.

Front Porch Flower Pot Workshop

o Join us to learn about making full vibrant flower pots for the front porch that last all summer long and make your own to take home.

o The workshop is Saturday, May 2 from 10:00-11:30 AM at the Jefferson County Extension Office. The workshop is open to and youth. Cost is $25 to attend (if youth are assisting parents in making a flower pot, they do not need to register). Register online at: https://go.iastate.edu/DA0TVW

o Jefferson County 4-H members can register at a discounted cost of $15. We appreciate parents attending with younger 4-H members. It will be no cost for parents to attend with their member, unless they plan to make their own pot to take home; in which case, they need to register themselves also.

Join local volunteer Barbara Rainbow for a monthly group exploration of genealogy and local history. Participants are welcome to bring any materials they would like to share or discuss with the group. In the coming months, particpants can look forward to presentations on learning to navigate ancestry.com, delve into the library's genealogy collection together, and make new friends!

Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place in the first 30 minutes each week. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.

JCHC Parkinson's Support Group

The Jefferson County Parkinson’s Support Group is a Community Group that meets once a month with support from JCHC and the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA)- “Strength in Optimism. Hope in Progress.” The group meets the first Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. in JCHC Conference Room C. (Use the McCreery Cancer Center entrance.) The purpose of the group is to learn, engage in discussions with others, share experiences, tips, and ideas about living with Parkinson's disease or being a care partner, provide mutual support, and foster a sense of community. Dungeons & Dragons drop in campaign

Join DJ every other Sunday for this epic high fantasy D&D campaign.

Old stones up in the mountains hold the stories; a king becoming sick with greed; with wanting of more and more wealth, and a dwarven civilization of gold and diamond. Something long ago forced the dwarves to abandon Al’Khaz, the city of gold. Its location, all its wealth, and all of its technology, all lost to time. Diabetes Community Group

The Jefferson County Health Center Diabetes Community Group is a welcoming and supportive space for individuals living with diabetes, as well as their families and caregivers. This group offers a chance to connect with others who understand the day-to-day challenges of managing diabetes, while learning helpful tips, sharing experiences, and receiving guidance from healthcare professionals. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or have been managing diabetes for years, this group is here to empower you with knowledge, encouragement, and community.

The purpose of the group is to learn, engage in discussions with others, share experiences, tips, and ideas about living with Diabetes or being a care partner, provide mutual support, and foster a sense of community.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

The Jefferson County Caregiver Support Group is a community-based group that meets once a month with support from Jefferson County Health Center. It provides a welcoming, supportive space where caregivers can connect with others, share experiences, and feel understood as they navigate the challenges of caring for a loved one.

Whether you’re new to caregiving or have been in this role for years, this group offers encouragement, connection, and a reminder that you’re not alone.

Dungeons & Dragons drop in campaign

Join DJ every other Sunday for this epic high fantasy D&D campaign.

Old stones up in the mountains hold the stories; a king becoming sick with greed; with wanting of more and more wealth, and a dwarven civilization of gold and diamond. To have such plentiful gold that it was as valuable as timber or stone in its day. Gold was a building material while currency was polished wood mined from tree roots. Something long ago forced the dwarves to abandon Al’Khaz, the city of gold. Its location, all its wealth, and all of its technology, all lost to time. Some say it was stolen away by the sea, some claim it was lifted into the sky to live among the clouds, others theorize that it left for a different plane entirely.As the humble and fabled people of Aegravalon struggles to defend Tregaidaran from the forces of Dourlaran and their terrible plans of land development, our heroes are faced with evidence that maybe Al’Khaz could be found. Shut Up & Write

Shut Up and Write is a chance for writers to sit quietly together and work on their writing projects. 

All writers and all experience levels are welcome, and dont worry, no one will see what you've written. This hour is about getting your writing done.

WHAT TO EXPECT

3:30 PM: Quick intros
3:45 PM-4:45 PM: Write for 1 hr.
4:45 PM-5:00 PM: Clean up and Farewells (until next Tuesday!)

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING?

Mah Jongg

Date & Time: Every Wednesday from 1-4pm 

Location: Fairfield Public Library Meeting Room

Audience: Adults

Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place in the first 30 minutes each week. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.

Anyone over 14 is welcome to volunteer on their own, 10-13 year olds will need a parent present

The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

Join FPL Librarians Joy Craig and Sara Martindale , community volunteers, and local crafters for a weekly crafting and textiles program! Shhh! We're Writing

Date & Time:  Fridays 2:00-2:30 writing 2:30 optional share time
Location: Fairfield Public Library Conference Room
Audience: Ages 8 and up

Aspiring writers ages 8 and up can come to the library for a quiet work session in the library conference room. Writers are provided a writing prompt or they can work on their own writing projects. The last 15 minutes writers can share if they so choose.
