Washington Elementary School Principal to Retire
FAIRFIELD, IA — Washington Elementary School Principal Tina Townsend will retire at the end of the 2024-25 school year, after 32 years of service in education.
According to Townsend, she will miss working with students, staff, and families on a daily basis. However, she looks forward to settling into retirement with her husband, Kirk, and two children, Joshua and Danielle.
“We are thankful for everything Tina has given to this district over the last four years,” said Fairfield Community School District Superintendent Zach Wigle. “We wish her the very best in retirement as she gets ready to begin a new chapter.”
Townsend has served as Washington’s principal for the past four years. In addition to her leadership of the school, she has served in the Gorin R-III School District, the Schuyler County R-I School District, and the Lexington R-V School District.
Townsend earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Northeast Missouri State University and went on to obtain her master’s degree in educational leadership from William Woods University.
The district is now beginning the process of finding the next principal at Washington Elementary. The job posting is available at www.fairfieldsfuture.org/o/fcsd/page/join-our-team.
