FAIRFIELD — Fairfield Arts & Convention Center presents Unstopped: Works for Organ by Women Composers, a thoughtfully curated organ recital highlighting the depth, range, and artistry of women composers, on Friday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. The performance is part of the Barhydt Organ Spotlight Series and features Dr. Karen E. Black at the console of the Barhydt Organ.

The program brings together works spanning centuries and styles, revealing how women have shaped and continue to shape the organ repertoire through music that is powerful, inventive, reflective, and emotionally resonant. From intimate textures to commanding sonorities, Unstopped invites audiences to experience the organ as a dynamic and expressive instrument through voices that have too often been overlooked.

“This program is both a celebration and an invitation,” said Lindsay Bauer, Executive Director of Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. “It honors composers whose contributions deserve greater visibility, while offering audiences a fresh and engaging way to experience the organ.”

Dr. Karen E. Black is an accomplished organist, conductor, educator, and recording artist, currently serving as Rudi Inselmann Endowed Professor of Organ at Wartburg College. Her work as a performer and scholar has taken her across the United States and abroad, and she has been featured on nationally broadcast programs including Pipedreams.

Unstopped: Works for Organ by Women Composers is presented free of charge, with a suggested donation of $10 at the door. The Barhydt Organ Spotlight Series reflects Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s ongoing commitment to artistic excellence, thoughtful curation, and joyful exploration within classical music programming.
