John Schirmer

John has been a printmaker for 40 years, specializing in wood block prints. “I attended art fairs all over the country receiving many awards. I have carved prints in linoleum, how- ever I prefer wood because of my natural friend- ship with wood. I have carved for the furniture industry including Baker Furniture, carved wooden  signs and sculpture – Mr. & Mrs. Santa Clause for Fairfield’s Christmas display. Printmakers are very enthusiastic about paper - I use an Italian paper called Rosapenna Cream. I use an oil base ink which produces a rich deep color. After printing the black, I hand color each print using watercolor & gouache, an opaque water-based color.”
