The Fairfield Art Association announces the opening of an exhibit of Oil Paintings by John Carlson in the Main Gallery at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center on Friday November 1st. A reception will be held from 6-8 PM  for the artist, who will give a galley talk at 7:00 PM.

Carlson states "The Paintings that I have selected for this exhibit display the expansion of my inner being. In each painting I find the starting point for the next one and the ability to grow my ideas.  Starting with spontaneous thumbnail drawings, I enlarge the roughs and add a liberal dose of color. These paintings for me, are a snapshot of my life at the inception of the works. They are a voice I use to communicate. They are my opportunity to be physically silent and shout at the same time. I chose the title, “Vault”, because of the spontaneity of the way the images come to me and the value that I assign to the fact that I get to display these paintings to viewers in this room."

Carlson resides in Burlington, Iowa, graduating from Marycrest College in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in

Computer Graphics. He has exhibited throughout Iowa and Illinois, in one person, group and invitational shows. He has received First Place awards for his paintings in Keokuk, Iowa and Galesburg, Ill. and a special award at an Iowa Artists Exhibition.

Well-known Fairfield artist, John Preston, will be displaying recent watercolors in the Hallway Gallery in the FA&CC, near the FAA Studio/Sales Gallery, also opening on Friday Nov. 1. The title of his exhibit is "European Images", which were created in John's recent travels to France and beyond.

Don't miss this stop - TWO Talented Artists in same location! November 1 is a First Friday "Passport Port Gallery Hop" evening where art is the focus, art viewers can go from gallery to gallery and get a provided passport to have stamped at each gallery. From these, a winner will be drawn at the end of the evening for a piece of art to keep.
