Engineering Excellence — Inside Team Pioneer’s Mission to Build, Create, and Inspire

In a workshop buzzing with ideas, precision tools, and the hum of innovation, Team Pioneer Robotics is designing something remarkable — a competition-ready robot built entirely by local high school students. Competing in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), Team Pioneer combines creativity, coding, and engineering to take on this year’s exciting new challenge, DECODE.
Each season, the team starts from scratch — brainstorming, prototyping, and perfecting their design through trial, error, and teamwork. This year’s robot features advanced components such as Mecanum wheels for multi-directional movement, odometry sensors for precise navigation, and a high-tech camera for object detection and positioning. To make this possible, the students also plan to use a Bambu Lab 3D printer and CNC machine to fabricate custom parts — giving them hands-on experience in both engineering and manufacturing.
Beyond competition, Team Pioneer’s mission is rooted in community connection. They’re eager to host demonstrations, classroom presentations, and booths at local events to show younger students how exciting STEM can be. Their enthusiasm is contagious — sparking curiosity, confidence, and collaboration wherever they go.
With an ambitious goal to raise $10,000 for the season, community support plays a vital role in helping the team continue their momentum. Funds will support robot parts, travel for the state competition in Iowa City, registration fees, and outreach materials like shirts, banners, and sponsor signage.
