Why Volunteer With Us?
By joining our kitchen, you're not just preparing meals – you're strengthening our community, one plate at a time. Here's how your contribution makes a difference:
- You'll help create delicious, plant-based meals for all, regardless of their ability to pay.
- Your efforts support our mission to reduce food waste by working with local food systems.
- You'll be part of a welcoming space where community members from all walks of life come together.
We need your help! Our kitchen runs best with 6 volunteers per shift, but often we're operating with just our kitchen director and a few helpers. Whether you can volunteer once a month or make it a weekly habit, your time is invaluable to us. Regular volunteers are especially appreciated as they help us maintain consistent operations.
Ready to make a difference? Sign up HERE and become part of our Stone Soup story!
Can't volunteer? You can still support the cause with your donation. Donate HERE. Donations are tax deductible!

DESCRIPTION OF WORKSHOP…..Storytelling using a limited palette! Class size is Minimum: 4 people / Max: 12
$45 ($35 for FAA members) for 3 hour class.
Medium: Oil, Acrylic, or Soft Pastel. Instructor will provide soft pastel and paper for this medium. Table easels will also be provided. Students would need to provide their own equipment/paint/canvas for other mediums.

We will discuss what makes an appealing composition and explore how color choices can be created by using a limited palette of 3 colors. Yes, this can also be done with soft pastels. Our process of mark making will show how you can create “mood” in a painting. We will apply techniques learned by creating a landscape work together as a class. If time allows, students will then be able to work on their own project with guidance from the instructor.

Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place the first Friday of each month. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.
If you need special assistance to join this program due to a disability, please contact the FPL Front Desk at 641-451-6551 Ext. 1 or circ@fairfield.lib.ia.us.
