Stuff Your Stocking - Event Registration Deadline

December 1, 2023
Washington Elementary School is sponsoring a fundraising event and would like it if community businesses could assist. “Stuff your Stocking” is an event that not only serves as a fundraiser for the building, but it will also provide businesses with an opportunity to give the Fairfield community and neighboring area children a special Christmas treat. As we know, many area children do not have gifts and treats for Christmas. How, you might ask, can your business support this event? All you have to do is pay $20 to have a table for the event day (this money goes to Washington Elementary as the fundraiser.) The date is Tuesday, December 19th, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Fairfield Community High School Dan Breen Gymnasium. That evening your staff would be at the table space you purchased to pass out the treasure that your business provides to give to the children. Washington staff would like to encourage your business to decorate your table however you feel is the best way to spread Christmas love. Your business will receive the joy of gifting Christmas to area children, as well as some publicity for your kindness.
If you would like to participate please complete a fundraiser form and return electronically to tina.townsend@fairfieldsfuture.org or drop a hard copy off to the Washington Elementary School office by Friday, December 1st.
Suggested ideas to hand out to students include - small toys, candy, coupons for free treats such as a cookie to Hy-Vee, ice cream or french fries from McDonalds, a day pass to go swimming or bowling, personal items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste any small items to bring cheer to a student around the Christmas time! We plan to have Santa in attendance and our goal is to make this an annual event. We are planning on around 400 children in attendance. Please direct any questions to the Washington Elementary School office (641) 472-2110. Thank you for supporting our area students.
“Stuff your Stocking” Event
If your business wishes to participate please complete the form below and return by 4:00 p.m. on Dec. 1st to tina.townsend@fairfieldsfuture.org or return to the Washington Elementary School office.

Ticket price $25 General Admission
A Holiday to Remember is a masterful one-man performance of two beloved Truman Capote short stories, “A Christmas Memory” and “The Thanksgiving Visitor.” Performed in Fairfield’s Sondheim Theatre accompanied with original music by Paul Carrol Binkley, promises to be a highlight of Fairfield’s holiday season.
“The Thanksgiving Visitor”
The story centers around the character, 7-year-old Buddy, his only friend and elderly cousin, Miss Sook, and other characters from the beloved Capote short stories. They prepare their old country house for Thanksgiving, but at the same time, Buddy finds himself a target of the freckled bully, Odd Henderson. As the story unfolds, themes of love and friendship are revealed, wrapped up in the heart of the Thanksgiving holiday.
“A Christmas Memory”
Another Capote favorite, this poignant story also follows Buddy and his favorite cousin as they complete their Christmas traditions. They make fruitcakes, trek through the woods to choose the perfect Christmas tree, and fly their homemade kites on Christmas day. Unfortunately, it is their last Christmas to spend together.

THE POET'S FORGE Date & Time: Every second Saturday from 3-4:30pm
Location: FPL Meeting Room
Audience: Adults
Host: Craig Deininger
The Poet's Forge is a workshop that emphasizes craft—hence "forge" and its connotations with smithing—the actual work we do within and upon the substance of language. This emphasis does not omit the many subtler elements vital to poetry like inspiration, imagination, meaning and so on. Rather it simply holds the techniques of the craft as its primary focus. The workshop is geared to those who are serious about developing their skill in composing poetry and not toward merely having a platform for voicing opinions or having one's work affirmed. That said, the atmosphere will be professional and respectful, attending precisely to the poetry of the participants. Anyone interested in writing more poetically, regardless of experience, is quite welcome provide they are prepared to honor what their poetry has to say as its own autonomous entity, so to speak. Auxiliary content on poetry and poetics will be included, but will not be prepared in advance. Rather, we will let the poetry that is on the table before us at any given moment determine our direction. About Craig Deininger Craig is Assistant Professor of Creative Writing & Literature at Maharishi International University. Before moving to Fairfield, Craig taught at Naropa University, Lees-McRae College, Studio Film School in Los Angeles, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he earned an MFA in Creative Writing, served as an editor for the Juniper Prize for Poetry, and was Coordinator of the MFA’s Visiting Writers Series. He also earned an MA and PhD in Mythology and Jungian Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in California. His poetry has been published in several literary journals, anthologies, and newspapers, including The Iowa Review, Glyphs, Between, Moab Happenings, and Riverbend. He is a regularly featured writer for the Joseph Campbell Foundation, and his first book of poetry, Leaves from the World Tree, was recently published by Mandorla Books.

Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet is a timeless and enchanting masterpiece in the world of classical dance and music. Composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1892, the ballet is based on the adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by Alexandre Dumas. It has since become one of the most beloved and frequently performed ballets around the world.
Set during the festive season, the ballet begins with a Christmas Eve party at the Stahlbaum family’s house. Among the guests is young Clara Stahlbaum, who receives a magical nutcracker doll from her mysterious godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer. After the party, when everyone is asleep, Clara sneaks back to the living room to check on her beloved nutcracker. To her astonishment, the room transforms, and a battle ensues between the toy soldiers led by her Nutcracker and an army of mice, headed by the Mouse King.
As the Mouse King is defeated, Clara’s Nutcracker transforms into a handsome prince. Grateful for her bravery, the Prince invites Clara to a magical journey to the Land of Sweets, ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Tchaikovsky’s captivating score brings the story to life with its memorable melodies and expressive orchestration. The ballet is known for its captivating choreography, especially the grand pas de deux performed by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, as well as the mesmerizing Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
The Nutcracker Ballet has become a cherished holiday tradition in many cultures, and its enduring appeal lies in its magical storytelling, beautiful music, and stunning dance performances. The timeless tale of Clara’s fantastical journey continues to captivate audiences of all ages and has secured its place as one of the most cherished ballets in the world.
