The hilarious and true story behind one of America’s most beloved TV comedies! Lucille Ball paved the way for many of today’s top comediennes, while forcing Hollywood to begin dealing with the rising power and influence of women artists both on-screen and behind the scenes. Her iconic series, I Love Lucy, remains one of the most groundbreaking and influential shows in television history. Playwright Gregg Oppenheimer—son of I Love Lucy creator Jess Oppenheimer the considered the foremost authority on all things Lucy—spins this witty, fast-paced tale of Lucy and Desi’s battles with CBS over the pioneering ideas that changed the face of television forever.

Are you concerned about the decline of insects and birds? Head to the Fairfield Public Library for a Zoom seminar with Doug Tallamy. Recent headlines about global insect declines and three billion fewer birds in North America are a bleak reality check about how ineffective our current landscape designs have been at sustaining the plants and animals that sustain us. To create landscapes that enhance local ecosystems rather than degrade them, we must 1) remove the invasives on our property and 2) add the native plant communities that sustain food webs, sequester carbon, maintain diverse native bee communities, and manage our watersheds. If we do this in half of the area now in lawn, we can create Homegrown National Park, a 20-million-acre network of viable habitats that will provide vital corridors connecting the few natural areas that remain. This approach to conservation empowers everyone to play a significant role in the future of the natural world.
Doug Tallamy is the T. A. Baker Professor of Agriculture in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware, where he has authored 111 research publications and has taught insect related courses for 41 years. Chief among his research goals is to better understand the many ways insects interact with plants and how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities. His books include Bringing Nature Home, The Living Landscape, co-authored with Rick Darke, Nature’s Best Hope, a New York Times Best Seller, The Nature of Oaks, winner of the American Horticultural Society’s 2022 book award. In 2021 he cofounded Homegrown National Park with Michelle Alfandari. His awards include recognition from The Garden Writer’s Association, Audubon, The National Wildlife Federation, Allegheny College, Ecoforesters, The Garden Club of America and The American Horticultural Association.
This event is brought to you by the SE Iowa Sierra Club, Nady Conservation Committee, Iowa Prairie Network, Sustainable Living Coalition, Leopold Landscape Alliance, and Jefferson County Conservation.

Date/Time: | 2/22/2023 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM | ||
Description: |
In-Person Private Applicator Continuing Instruction Courses (P-CICs) provide Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship-Pesticide Bureau-approved training for individuals who are currently certified as a private pesticide applicator. P-CICs are offered from December 1st to April 15th each year. Applicators who choose to maintain their certification by attending an approved P-CIC must attend a program during each year their certification card covers, including the year they passed the exam (if certification occurs prior to October 1). If a P-CIC is missed in one or more years of their three-year cycle, the applicator is required to take the certification exam through IDALS to renew their certification. |

In Ruben Östlund’s wickedly funny Palme d’Or winner, social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. Celebrity model couple, Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). What first appeared instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.

ELVIS IS IN THE BUILDING!
Joseph Hall is thrilled to be bringing his Elvis Rock N Remember tribute show! This show is directed in such a manner that really shows the roots of Elvis but yet a fast pace show that will make it difficult for you to stay in your seat. It caters to both the young and the young at heart. He’s got the look, the voice, the charm and the moves that take us back to a time when parents were flabbergasted by the flauntingly provocative hip action. A must-see for all ages!
