Join us at FPL Tuesday, November 1st, for a Day of the Dead celebration for all ages.
The Day of the Dead tradition is somewhat similar to Halloween or All Hallows Eve, but in the Mexican tradition, November 1st and 2nd are celebrated as lighthearted, jovial days of remembering one's deceased loved ones.
Starting at 5:00pm, we will have read-aloud stories about the Day of the Dead by local hero Edith Cabrera, arts & crafts, music, refreshments, and more! Come see our new Day of the Dead altar display in the library honoring great Spanish language authors with Pan de Muerto (Bread for the Dead) baked by Melody Garcia.
Participants may bring a photo of a deceased loved one to leave on the altar, flowers, or a favorites food or drink of those who have passed on.
If you need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event, please contact the library at 641-472-6551 Ext. 2.

One Night in Memphis

Get ready for a night of rockabilly, country, gospel and pure 1950’s rock and roll with “One Night in Memphis” — a high energy concert that takes you back to December 4, 1956, the night when four of the biggest names in early rock and roll — Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash — gathered together for an impromptu jam session at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis.
Created and directed by John Mueller from the highly acclaimed show, “Winter Dance Party,” the evening gets off to a rocking start with Carl Perkins performing hits like “Honey Don’t,” “Brown-Eyed Handsome Man,” and “Blue Suede Shoes,” while offering up anecdotes about life as a sharecroppers’ son and his musical influences. Midway through his set, Carl invites session musician Jerry Lee Lewis to join him and the Killer seizes the opportunity to front the band and lead the audience on a musical journey from New Orleans to Nashville and eventually into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. As Jerry puts the finishing touches on a set which includes “High School Confidential”, “Breathless, “Whole Lotta Shaking Goin’ On,” and “Great Balls of Fire,” the audience will have an opportunity to catch their breath as Johnny Cash is welcomed to the stage with his signature “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash.” And then the musical journey through Cash’s timeless catalog begins — including smash hits like “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Ring of Fire,” and “I Walk the Line.” Next up…Elvis Presley, who electrifies the audience and transports them back to his beginnings where he went from driving a truck to delivering eleven #1 hits between 1956-1959. Hits like “Shake, Rattle & Roll” to “All Shook Up,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Don’t be Cruel,” and “Hound Dog.”
This tribute to that memorable night in Memphis when Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded at Sam Phillips’ Sun Studios features nationally acclaimed cast members who have the uncanny sound, look and feel of the original legends, plus an authentic and energetic rockabilly backup band. You will feel as though you are witness to a rock and roll royalty jam session with the legendary performers whose music has stood the test of time.

OMG you guys!!! Legally Blonde – The Musical is coming to Fairfield!
Fabulously fun and international award-winning Legally Blonde – The Musical is the ultimate Broadway tribute to Girl Power! The story follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, sexism, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams, and proves that you can be legally blonde and STILL the smartest person in the room. This contemporary, sassy musical moves at a breakneck pace driven by memorable songs and explosive dances. Legally Blonde – The Musical warms the heart by proving that self-discovery can be way too much fun and hilarious to boot!
Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down, however, when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting more serious about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her ingenuity and charm to get into Harvard too. School begins with endless struggles, but with the help of her new friends, Elle quickly realizes her potential, and her true assets, as she sets out to prove herself to the world and make everyone a believer.
Based on the beloved movie, Legally Blonde – The Musical will take you from the sorority house to the halls of justice with Broadway’s brightest new heroine and, of course, her beloved Chihuahua, Bruiser.

See the town square come to life! The Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 25th, 2022 at Central Park in Fairfield. To kick off the illumination and subsequently the holiday season, the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce organizes this festive tradition with the lights being turned on at 6:00pm.
Special thanks to our 2022 Holiday Lighting Ceremony Sponsor, Everybody's Whole Foods!
The Fairfield High School Choir will set the mood by singing Holiday music at 5:30pm. The Chamber Christmas Committee chooses one citizen, whom best exemplifies the holiday spirit, and presents them with the opportunity to throw the switch to turn on the lights for the season. This citizen will be announced at 5:55pm so the lights can be turned on at 6:00pm sharp. After arriving to town as the lights come on, Santa can be found in the Santa House listening to the children share their hopes for the holiday season. There will also be horse drawn wagon rides around the square for the kids. Free hot cocoa and cookies will be handed out at the Santa House. An evening not to be missed!

“A heartbreaking tribute to the men who, in defiance of their commanders had the courage to affirm their common humanity.” ~ The New Yorker
“One of the top live events for Christmas in North America.” ~ BBC Music Magazine
The Western Front, Christmas, 1914. Out of the violence a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music, peace. A remarkable true story, told in the words and songs of the men who lived it.
We are proud to provide half price tickets to veterans and their spouses for this extraordinary event! Please call the Box Office at (641) 472-ARTS to take advantage of this special offer.
