Sunshine Art School Summer Program

🎨 Sunshine Art School: Summer Art Program for Kids

Welcome to a summer full of color, creativity, and joy at Sunshine Art School! Join artist Lena Sage for the Drawing & Painting Summer Art Program, designed for children ages 6 to 15. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 10:30 AM to 12 PM, running this summer through August 8, 2025, at 310 E. Madison Ave., Fairfield, IA.

Each week features a different theme, including still life, landscape painting, color theory, fantasy creatures, watercolor, architecture, and more. Students will explore new techniques, develop their artistic voice, and even participate in a final exhibition to showcase their work. With professional instruction and a fun, nurturing environment, young artists will build confidence, skills, and imagination.

Tuition is $25 for a single day (2 lessons) or $100 for a full week (10 lessons), with all art supplies provided at no cost. Just bring your creativity! Space is limited to ensure personal attention for each student.

Snow Nouveau Pop-up

Young Artists Paper Flowers Workshop

The Young Artists Class originally scheduled for Monday, July 21 has been moved to Friday, July 18. After this change, our regular every-other-Monday schedule will continue as usual. Classes are held at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center in the room next to the Gift Shop.

The cost is $15 per child, which includes all supplies. We accept checks and credit cards. Please note that credit payments include a 3 percent processing fee. Caregivers may attend at no cost and are welcome to join the class if seats are available.

This week’s project is Toilet Paper Flowers. Using a paper cup, markers, glue, and thick toilet paper, your young artist will create beautiful DIY roses that look like they came from a boutique floral shop. It’s a fun way to explore color, layering, and design.

Come ready for a creative afternoon filled with imagination and hands-on crafting. We can’t wait to see what your artists create.

Bike Repair Workshop: Fixing Flat Tires

Learn how to fix a flat tire in this practical one-hour workshop at the library’s bike repair station. Participants will get step-by-step instruction on removing a wheel, patching or replacing an inner tube, and reinstalling everything correctly. Whether you're a new rider or just need a refresher, this session will give you the confidence to handle flats on your own.

In the event of rain, the workshop will be held in the Library's main meeting room. 

This event is co-sponsored by The Ride and is part of Level Up at The Library Summer Reading Challenge.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre presents SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS, an original adaptation of the classic fairy tale. A young princess named Show White finds herself in peril when her step-mother, the Queen, is told by her Magic Mirror that the princess is fairer than she! Aided by her two Henchmen and a band of evil Bats, the Queen plots to get rid of Snow White. Snow White escapes from the Queen and from the Black Forest Creatures with help from Witless the Woodsman, and finds a home with the Seven Dwarfs. When the Queen learns of Snow White’s whereabouts, she attempts to poison Snow White. But the Queen’s evil plans are thwarted when Snow White’s fearless Forest Friends, her father King Backwards, the Seven Dwarfs and the Prince come to her rescue.

Whiskey Club

Looking for a fun and relaxed way to explore new whiskeys and connect with fellow enthusiasts? Whiskey Club invites you to join us for a blind tasting experience that’s equal parts educational and social. Each session features two unique whiskeys (2 oz pour of each), giving you the chance to refine your palate, learn more about the spirit, and enjoy great company, all while supporting the Elks Lodge.

Participants are welcome to come early and enjoy the Prime Rib Meal at the lodge before the tasting begins.

Our Market at a Glance

First organized in 1975, we have become SE Iowa’s most well known farmer’s market. Customers are always pleased, and vendors can’t wait to bring their goods to such a vibrant community of buyers.

The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

Join us for a thought-provoking read once a month sponsored by FPL. Book are available through Interlibrary Loan and will be available 4 weeks prior to the group's meeting. Participants vote each month on the next book they will read. Titles chosen will be philosophical and rich in meaning, but digestible enough for just about any inquisitive mind. This event is free and open to the general public.

"The Boy Who was Never Afraid" Puppet Play

This Waldorf style puppet play put on by the Singing Cedars Puppet Performers.  Join brave Nisse as he bravely adventures through the Hulta forest to find his family's missing milk cow who is the very best milk cow in all the land.  This dangerous journey tests his wit and wisdom, and ends with justice restored thanks in large part to dear friends repaying kindness given along the way. 

This program is a part of the Level Up at your Library! Summer Reading Challenge and is supported in part by financial Contributions by Everybody’s Whole Food Store, ITC Midwest, LLC., and Avi and Dora Pogel.
